About Me

Crunchy Lutheran Mommy

Hi!  I’m Dalas, and I am your host here on Crunchy Lutheran Mommy.  I am (as you may have guessed) crunchy, Lutheran and also a mommy.  For better or for worse I am quite opinionated passionate, although I strive daily to line my words with more grace and more love than I did the day before.  I do fail at this sometimes, but my husband does his best to keep me in line.  (Love you sweetie!)

I am “crunchy”, which is just a fancy way of saying that I want to keep my family healthy so we can continue to serve God in able bodies and with sharp minds.  My crunchiness involves such activities as home birth, ecological breastfeeding, natural infant hygiene, eating wholesome foods, making my own household products and lots of other odd and strange things.  If you are new to crunchiness I challenge you to take a look around and see how natural living can be good for all of God’s creation – including you!

The other thing you will notice about me right off the top, I’m a Lutheran.  This is actually one of the reasons I started blogging.  I read a lot of crunchy blogs and a lot of mommy blogs, but I couldn’t find any Crunchy Lutheran Mommy blogs… so I made my own!  There are lots of us Crunchy Lutheran Mommies out there, so if your idea of Lutherans is people who don’t care about the environment or social justice or raising godly children or enjoying worship… I hope you read some of my posts!  We are all about those things and a whole lot more.  In reading my non-Lutheran friends’ blogs I have learned SO much about life and faith.  As brothers and sisters in Christ, we can learn much from one another.  So I encourage you, don’t shy away from the Lutheran tradition.  Come, listen, ask some questions and maybe you’ll actually get something out of my semi-sensical rambling.

Lastly, I’m a mother.  Remember that passion I was telling you about?  My Mama Bear reflexes bring out the best (worst?) in that area.  I apologize ahead of time.  If I offend you, it’s probably because I am seriously passionate about motherhood.  The hand that rocks the cradle?  Yeah, you know.  It’s an important job.  There are lots of philosophies on parenting, and they are not all created equal.  Many people don’t realize that the Bible actually has a lot to say on parenting!  When I think of my ideal of motherhood, I want my parenting to be natural, gentle and Biblical.  I want the love that God has for me to flow over to my interactions with my children every day.  I fall totally short, but God’s mercies are new every morning.  So I’ll keep trying.  And I’ll keep talking about it too.  It’s a deeply personal and sensitive topic, so I try to tread lightly, but the effects of both good and bad parenting are wide reaching and long lasting.  For this reason, I do believe keeping the dialogue open is important.

I fail daily, not only my children and my family – but my dear readers!  I realize that I say some things that may be hard to hear, or I may say something just flat out wrong or unlovingly.  In fact, I know I will!  If I do I beg you to please follow these simple steps:

1. Forgive me.  If I have sinned against God by offending you, please know this was never my intent.  Drawing from the lavish forgiveness that Christ has shown to you, please likewise forgive your humble servant.

2. Talk to me about it.  There are lots of ways to connect with me.  You can find them on the buttons in the top right hand side of the webpage.  Of course, I always welcome constructive criticism in the comments section, but if this is a personal offense please speak with me one on one first.  I would be honored to have the opportunity to apologize personally and to resolve my error and mend that bridge.  It’s so much easier to do that in a personal conversation.

Feel free to look around, I am in the process of adding lots of great resources for all you lovely folks.  So stay tuned!  If you have any questions or topics you’re just dying for me to blog about.  Connect up with me on one of the aforementioned buttons and I’ll do my best to keep getting out the content that my readers want!
